World Coins - Asia, Middle-East & North Africa YEMEN: al-Hadi al-Hassan b Yahya, fl. 1904, silverwashed AE buqsha (0.61g), NM, AH(13)22, Y-C1, A-F1159, legends al-hadi li-din Allah // al-hasan bin yahya (13)22; likely struck at either Sada or Barat in northern Yemen; average strike; some porosity, crude VF, RRRR. This appears to be the second example of this exceedingly rare type offered at auction (first was sold in our Auction 49, Lot 1469). Only two other examples are confirmed, Zeno-11093 in a private collection and the example in the Tübingen Collection, which was found in Yemen. The identity of al-Hadi is unknown, but the legends and date are indisputable. Al-Hadi was probably the figurehead of one of several revolts that erupted upon the death of Hamid al-Din in AH1322.
