FRANCE. Empire. White Metal 20 Francs Essai (Pattern), 1807-Q. Perpignan Mint. Napoleon I. PCGS SPECIMEN-63.cf. Fr-487-92 (for regular issue); cf. KM-A687 (same); cf-Gad-1023 (same); cf. F-514 (same); cf. T&T-1086.3 (for a similar essai for a 40 Francs). Weight: 2.37 gms. Though not listed by the authors of T&T, this example is quite similar to a 40 Francs trial from the same mint for 1807. Highly interestingly, however, Perpignan did not strike either this denomination or the 40 Francs for that year. VERY RARE and intriguing, with an appealing olive-gray hue throughout. To view all items from the Richard Margolis Collection, click here. From the Richard Margolis Collection (acquired from Émile Bourgey on 14 January 1956 for 85¢).
