CHINA--FOREIGN BANKS. Deutsch-Asiatische Bank. 1 Tael, 1.3.1907. P-S289s. S/M#T101-10c. Specimen. PMG About Uncirculated 55.Shanghai branch. A fantastic specimen for the 1 Tael denomination of the Shanghai branch. With "DRUCKPROBE" perforations, a "WERTLOS" overprint in red on the front and "SPECIMEN" overprint on the back. All zero serial numbers further confirm its status of a specimen. Very seldom seen in this format (or really in any format), and not surprisingly, the sole specimen in the PMG population report for this variety. Far fewer varieties denominated in Tael were printed compared to the typical ones seen in (Mexican Silver) Dollars (the Peking 5 Tael appears to be the most common variety in this unit of currency) and this is a variety that should gather particular attention due to its vibrant and appealing color scheme. An exceptional offering for the specialist of Chinese Foreign Banks, German economic history, or the collector of world-class rarities. PMG Comments "Staple Holes."From the Al Kugel Collection.
