BRITISH CARIBBEAN TERRITORIES. Currency Board of the British Caribbean Territories. 100 Dollars, 28.11.1950. P-6. PMG Choice Very Fine 35.In our 90+ year history, we have offered our fair share of numismatic rarities. Until now, however, we have never been able to offer the present type in issued format. And in fact, if in those 90 years, you wanted to acquire this note, your opportunities could be counted on the fingers of one hand. In the realm of world paper money, few rarities achieve the same level as this present lot, and we are honored to offer this 1950-dated British Caribbean Territories $100 graded Choice Very Fine 35 by PMG. The British Caribbean Currency Board (BCCB) played a crucial role in creating a standardized financial framework across British colonies in the Caribbean and South America. Its currency, introduced in 1951, became a cornerstone for economic cohesion in the region and would continue in circulation until the mid-1960s when notes of the East Caribbean Currency Authority were introduced. The design of the notes is identical on all six denominations issued, including a map of the region and a portrait of King George VI. The reverse design, showcasing the coats of arms of the member countries, symbolizes the collective identity of the participating colonies. The 1950 and 1951 dated notes come with distinct signature combinations. The signatures of Ronald W. Robertson, Edwin F. McDavid, and Hampden A. Cuke are seen on this 1950-dated note. Not only is this an extremely rare type, but the present example is the sole finest in the PMG population report as of the time of cataloging. Just three notes are graded in total, with both other examples graded VF 25. Most collectors will satisfy themselves with a specimen example, which is very scarce as well, but if you appreciate issued notes this example should strongly be considered. The paper is fresh, its originality can clearly be observed, and there are no negatives worth mentioning by either the grading service or us. It appears that the sole reason this note did not receive the "EPQ" designation is the presence of some very small stray ink on the back near the watermark that does little to detract from the overall appearance of this piece. A tremendous rarity and without a doubt one of the highlights of this sale.
