FRANCE. Empire. 5 Francs, 1807-A. Paris Mint. Napoleon I. PCGS MS-62.cf. Dav-83 (bare heads not differentiated); Sobin-56; KM-685; Gad-582; F-305/1. Transitional type. Mintage: 49,417. Surpassed in the PCGS census by just a single example, this VERY RARE specimen stands as a singular emission from Paris alone. While other types exist for the year (the less-refined bare head portrait of Tiolier, and the similarly-refined laureate head portrait of Brenet), they dont offer this blending of styles. As such, this Paris "transitional" issue is a great RARITY that is no doubt lacking from even the most advanced collections. When taking into account the exceptional state of preservation of the present piece, along with its charming toning, subtle brilliance, and wholesome nature, it is difficult to imagine the heights to which it could soar.To view all items from the Richard Margolis Collection, click here. From the Richard Margolis Collection (acquired from John Kirkpatrick on 16 March 1994 for $2,200).
