(t) HONG KONG (SAR). Mercantile Bank of India Limited. 50 Dollars, 1.1.1930. P-238s. KNB14S. Specimen. PMG Gem Uncirculated 66 EPQ.
(t)On September 1, 2019, the United States enacted new tariffs on collectors items of Chinese origin, including bullion and numismatic coins and banknotes. This lot was manufactured in China and was sourced from outside the United States for this auction after the tariffs were enacted. Accordingly, any client who wishes to take delivery of this item within the United States will be subject to a 7.5% import tariff plus a processing fee of 0.3464% (minimum $31.67 / maximum $614.35).
Please note, this is not, and is not intended to be, a complete description of the applicable import tariffs and buyer remains fully liable for and agrees to promptly pay all tariffs and fees relating to the import of these items into the United States and neither the auctioneer nor any consignor will have any responsibility to pay any applicable tariffs or fees. Please consult your tax adviser with any questions.Furthermore, any lots subject to an import tariff will be shipped directly from our Hong Kong offices and shipments to the United States will be subject to our international shipping chart. Brown and black on light blue and pink, upper central vignette depicting a coastal scene, reverse in similar colours, Mercury with winged helmet at centre. An original choice uncirculated note in bold and striking colours on original paper. Well deserving of its 66-EPQ Gem status for its crisp, clean and original paper body. The SINGLE HIGHEST GRADE in the PMG population report, an unparalleled beauty!Nicknamed the Banana Split by local collectors because of the curved shaped of the vignette this is a classical and iconic type through the whole Hong Kong series. Only 3-4 issued notes extant with the last one sold in 2018 for a whopping USD$146,000 inclusive of the Buyers Premium and therefore the most likely way to obtain this type is through either specimens or colour trials. This note is only one of seven graded by PMG and very seldom offered in public auctions. The last piece sold was a PMG 64 sold by us in April 2024 for USD45,800 (including the Buyers Premium). With the recent strong interest in high end Hong Kong specimens we are certain that this piece will be the centre of attention in our Hong Kong section.
