FRENCH COCHIN CHINA. Copper Sapeque Pattern, 1870. Paris Mint. PCGS SPECIMEN-65 Red Brown. 设计者:D. Uhlhorn。 KM-Unlisted; Gad-Unlisted; Lec-1. By: D. Uhlhorn. According to Lecompte this type was produced for an exposition, with an alleged mintage of 5. While this number must be higher, as there are 9 on the PCGS population report, there is no doubt as to the general RARITY of the type. This particular example, at its Gem grade level, is tied for finest certified. It is not difficult to see why PCGS bestowed such a lofty grade: the coin features an exceptionally sharp strike along with blinding coppery luster in the fields. Subtle violet tone accents the high points, helping to make this the loveliest example we have offered yet.
