An <strong>EXTREMELY RARE</strong> and incredibly impressive offering, this type features as its obverse the familiar side-profile view of Yuan Shih-kai, here styled as the Hung-hsien emperor, and, as its reverse, the provocative flying dragon more commonly encountered on the "tall hat" Dollars of the same year. While said Dollars are very rare and immensely desirable in their own right, these gold denominations are simply that much more difficult to encounter and subsequently obtain. Clearly on the cusp of Choice status, and likely held back merely on account of the collectors number "45726" written in ink upon the reverse. Exceedingly lustrous and brilliant, with a tremendous strike and phenomenal eye appeal. Compare to a similar example, a PCGS MS-63 that realized a total of $144,000 in our April 2024 Hong Kong Auction (Lot # 40169).
