China, Tibetan Government, 20-Tam Srang, 7.21g, 15-53, struck in silver, snow lion facing left, the words rab byung 15 ("cycle 15") above and lo 53 ("year 53") below (see KM Y# 22, L&M 1063; WS 0185 for type), Wolfgang Bertsch Collection. Gold coins struck from the same pair of dies are not known, toned good very fine, unique. This coin might be a trial strike the dies of which were not accepted for the production of gold coins of this date. The original owner of the coin was a merchant from Kalimpong who told Wolfgang Bertsch that he had acquired this coin before 1959 from a Tibetan in the Chumbi valley which is Tibetan territory wedged between Sikkim and Bhutan.
