BARBADOS. Government of Barbados. 100 Dollars, ND (1943). P-6cts. Color Trial Specimen. PMG About Uncirculated 55. An impressive rarity from Barbados and one of the great rarities in the British Commonwealth series. The is the highest denomination of the series with portrait of King George VI at right that was produced only with the 1943 date (a 1949 series was possibly prepared, but we are not certain). Based on specimens seen we suspect that just 2,000 notes were ever issued at most. Demand for the denomination must have been low which is no surprise thanks to the great purchasing power of this note at the time of issue. A type that while known in issued form is pretty much only obtainable in specimen or color trial specimen format. The issued note was printed in black and brown but this color trial is a (in your catalogers opinion) more subtle and appealing purple and blue color scheme. With perhaps only a single issued example known do not let this opportunity to acquire this rare type pass you by. PMG Comments "Previously Mounted."
