ILKHAN: Hulagu, 1256-1265, AR dirham (2.91g), Hamah, AH65(8), A-2124, some weakness, as usual for this type, struck during the very short Ilkhan presence in Syria, which lasted only a few months, XF, RRR, ex SARC Auction 17 Lot 677. On this remarkable type, Hulagu is described as "the conqueror of the coast (al-basita) by the grace of his brother Möngke, the Great Qa'an". The coast refers to the Mediterranean, which of course he never quite reached!
