GRECO-BACTRIAN / YUEH-CHI: Antigonus, 1st century BC, AE obol (0.54g), Zeno-143458 (different dies), Nike standing right, holding wreath and palm frond, with weak legend ANTIΓONOΣ with the last four letters in the quadrate form // the Dioskouroi on horses rearing right, each holding palm frond; traces of what might be ΘEOY in the exergue, VF, RRRR.This is the 2nd or 3rd known example, the first was sold in the CNG Auction 99, lot 416, in 2015, and the second is reported to have been found about 2000 but not confirmed. The type is probably related to the Yueh-Chi (Yuezhi) period (roughly 130 BC to late 1st century BC). The name Antigonos may be a local chief, perhaps somewhere in the Tukharistan region, or simply the copy of the name Antigonus from the old Greek coins that might still be circulating in the region.
