1954-D Jefferson Nickel. MS-66+ FS (PCGS). Delicate champagne-apricot and powder blue highlights come to life as the surfaces dip into a light. Lustrous and frosty, both sides are fully struck and expertly preserved. The Denver Mint carried most of the burden for circulation strike nickel production in 1954 with a mintage of 117,183,060 pieces - the highest in the Jefferson series from 1947 through 1956. Understandably common in an absolute sense, most Mint State survivors are plagued by poor striking detail that rules out an FS designation from PCGS. Even those few pieces that are well struck grade no finer than MS-65 FS. As one of the two finest seen by PCGS, our offering of this extraordinary strike and condition rarity represents a fleeting opportunity for advanced Jefferson nickel enthusiasts. PCGS# 84053.
