1722 Woods Hibernia Halfpenny. Martin 4.10-Bd.1, W-12755. Unique. First Type, Harp at Left. White Metal. AU Details--Environmental Damage (PCGS). 82.3 grains. A highly unusual specimen, which Syd Martin (2007) describes as "[appearing] to be struck on a piece of cast scrap." Prominent curved clips at top and bottom have resulted in the loss of nearly 1/3 of the coins design. Syd conjectures: "I believe it was a die setup trial, possibly to check alignment (horizontal or rotational), using the first piece of metal that came to hand." Certainly the most intriguing coin in our current offering of the Sydney F. Martin Collection, and of the utmost importance to advanced specialists in the Hibernia coinage of William Wood. No PCGS# 924126. NGC ID: F7HW. <strong>To view supplemental information and all items from the Sydney F.
