Electrotype Copy 1786 Gen. Washington / Heraldic Eagle Copper. Type of Musante GW-05, W-5650, Breen-1130. About As Made.105.2 grains. A light chocolate brown, high quality electrotype of the Fewsmith (1870)-Appleton specimen that is now at the Massachusetts Historical Society and is one of just two genuine examples known of this very rare muling of dies from the series of enigmatic Confederation era coinages. Breen cites a second example as ex Robert R. Prann (ca.1947)-Kagin, but that specimen does not seem to have surfaced publicly in decades. Some of Pranns coins were sold by Kosoff in 1947, but it doesnt seem to be among them. Given that one is impounded in a museum and the other does not seem to have surfaced publicly in many decades, this electrotype may be the only way a dedicated collector will be able to represent this type in a collection of rare Confederation era coinages.
