1652 Pine Tree Shilling. Small Planchet. Noe-29, Salmon 11-F, W-930. Rarity-3. EF-40 (PCGS).71.45 grains. Otherwise bright silver-gray surfaces show wisps of light olive patina tucked in among many of the design elements. Those in the centers are bold, including complete inner borders on both sides, but the upper left obverse and upper right reverse peripheries run off the flan due to off center impressions from the dies. As such, the legends are only partially legible, fullest at ETS IN on the obverse, DO NEW E on the reverse. Impressively smooth for the assigned grade with no marks of other blemishes of note. The Noe-29 variety is readily available overall but is seldom encountered above VF condition. The present example is a significant survivor from these dies, worthy of serious bidder consideration.PCGS# 24. NGC ID: 2ARZ.
