Kwangtung Sat Yip Bank, China, remainder 1 dollar, Year 8 (1919), no serial number, green, train at centre, two red chops, reverse, purple, silver dollar at centre,(Pick unlisted), PMG 20 Very Fine, corner missing. Kwangtung Sat Yip Bank opened in 1917 with their headquarter in Kwangtung and a branch in Swatow.
From historical records, only 5, 10 and 50 yuan notes were issued, and all should be issued from Kwangtung. Hence this Swatow 1 dollar is unrecorded. Research shows only 2 examples have been seen in public auction; one at China Guardian (example without two red chops), and one at YangMing (lower 2 corners cut). And Spink also offered 2 hand drawn models as part of our Hong Kong Printing Press Collection. This example is possibly the best known and closest one will get to an issued note from this elusive yet important bank. Hugely important in the finacial history of Kwangtung, not to be missed by any serious collectors of China numismatics. Extremely rare
