Obverse: Pharos of Messana surmounted by statue of Neptune; galley to left in foreground with aquila on prow; Reverse: Scylla wielding a rudder with both hands. A gorgeous example of this seldom-seen and highly interesting Imperatorial type. The reverse presents a well-centered and dynamic representation of the legendary monster, Scylla. Both sides are deeply toned with some enticing underlying luster.
