SYRIA. Seleukid Kingdom. Antiochos VII Sidetes, 138-129 B.C. AR Tetradrachm, Antioch on the Orontes Mint, ca. 138-129 B.C. NGC Ch VF. Ex-Jewelry; Marks. HGC-9, 1067D; SC-2061.1T. Obverse: Diademed head right within fillet border; Reverse: Athena standing left holding Nike and shield with Medusa Gorgoneion; monogram and K to left; all within laurel wreath. A pleasing coin, with an even surface and great original color. Save for the unfortunate mount from being in a jewelry piece, none of the key aspects are affected. A charming example that offers a strong portrait and a seldom-seen control mark.
