Fr. 191a. 1864 $20 Compound Interest Treasury Note. PMG Very Fine 25. An always significant offering of this rare type with this note being one of just over 60 known examples. At left is allegorical Victory. Bottom center is Mortar Firing. Right end is Lincoln by Henry Gugler. Face bronze overprint (like fractional currency) and red Aug. 15, 1864 date (issued during the American Civil War). Green back with interest payment schedule. Plate D. No. 9540. These notes are typically found with restorations or netting comments, but this comment-free example is sure to create a buzz amongst advanced collectors. The bronzing is still attractive for the assigned grade. An excellent representation of the type for the grade.
