1860-D Liberty Head Half Eagle. Winter 46-GG. Medium D. AU-53 (PCGS). CAC. A thoroughly PQ About Uncirculated 1860-D half eagle. Blended light rose and warm honey-gold colors provide strong eye appeal and speak to the originality of the surfaces. Softly frosted luster is nearly full, there is no significant wear, and both sides are impressively smooth for an issue that Doug Winter (2003) describes as often having a "choppy appearance" due to numerous heavy abrasions. Ranking 16th out of 26 Dahlonega Mint half eagles in overall rarity, the 1860-D is typically offered no finer than Choice EF. About Uncirculated coins are very scarce, and enjoy heightened demand among specialists given the rarity of this issue in Mint State. The advanced collector would be hard pressed to find a nicer example at the AU-53 level than that offered here. PCGS# 8286. NGC ID: 25VH. CAC Stickered Population: 12 in all AU grades; 3 in all Mint State grades. From the Fairmont Collection - Rhone Set.
