1852-C Liberty Head Half Eagle. Winter-1. EF-45 (PCGS). CAC. Attractive deep honey-apricot surfaces brighten to golden-orange under a light. There is abundant mint luster in a frosty, if somewhat granular texture. Isolated high points are softly defined, but the balance of the features are razor sharp. Impressively smooth for a lightly circulated Charlotte Mint half eagle and worthy of the strongest bids. Winter-1 is the more frequently encountered of the two die pairings known for the issue, although we stress that the 1852-C is as conditionally challenged as one would expect for any pre-Civil War Southern gold issue. Premium EF examples, as here, are scarce and always in demand. PCGS# 8251. NGC ID: 25UB. From the Fairmont Collection - Rhone Set.
