Undated (1860s) Young America Firemans Medal. By Smith and Hartman. Brass. MS-64 (NGC). 30 mm. A very rare issue by Smith and Hartman die sinkers, who operated at 122 Fulton Street in Lower Manhattan. Exceptional quality for the issue. Original brassy-olive surfaces with a few swirls of deeper color that are most pronounced along the lower obverse border. NGC has mounted this medal with the reverse up in the holder. Obv: Boy holding standard with American flag on rampart of armed fort, peripheral inscription YOUNG AMERICA OF THE 19TH CENTURY.
