BUKHARAN PEOPLES SOVIET REPUBLIC: 1920-1925, AR medal, 56mm uniface enameled military medal for the suppression of the Basmachi Revolt, with symbols of the State, a large star with crescent below, Arabic script within, five small stars around and two rifles with bayonets either side, with loop atop, EF, RRR. The Bukharan Peoples Soviet Republic (1920-1925) was proclaimed on October 8, 1920 under Faizullah Khojaev. The overthrow of the Emir was the impetus for the Basmachi Revolt, a conservative anti-communist rebellion. In 1922, most of the territory of the Republic (East Bukhara, roughly from Hisor to West Pamir) was controlled by Basmachi, and it took the Red Army until 1926 to fully suppress the revolt.
