Embarkation of Vasco de Gama at right, with portrait of de Gama at left. Lovely blue and gold under printed pattern. Yellow undertint below the central design with floral designs at left and right. Large red "Filial em Loanda" seal at center. On the reverse, ornate lathe work is proudly displayed by the engraver in a flurry of colors. At center is an allegorical woman, gazing out to sea with a ship in the background. Excellent use of motifs from the Age of Exploration.
