1786 New Jersey Copper. Maris 12-G, W-4790. Rarity-4. No Coulter, Shaggy Mane. VF-25 (PCGS).147.3 grains. An impressive example of this No Coulter variety with lovely light golden-brown color and solid VF sharpness. Several light marks and scratches are scattered across each side but none are individually egregious enough to preclude a numerical grade. Besides these marks, the planchet is hard and glossy with no trace of roughness. Struck medal turn as usual and fairly well impressed, nicely centered on the planchet and the only notable weakness is at the top of the shield which was opposite the high relief horse head. An excellent piece worthy of a high quality cabinet, the No Coulter type is very scarce at the VF level and legitimately rare in higher grades.PCGS# 767871.From the Sydney F. Martin Collection.
