Undated (ca. 1652-1674) St. Patrick Farthing. Martin 1c.5-Ba.4, W-11520. Rarity-7+. Silver. Nothing Below King. VF Details--Holed (PCGS).89.1 grains. A charming and somewhat more affordable example of a silver St. Patrick farthing, a famous and desirable colonial type. Neatly holed at 12 oclock, otherwise the surfaces are smooth and evenly worn, toned in lime gold and pale silver-gray and quite attractive for a piece of 17th century silver. Random circulation marks are as expected, while a patch of planchet flakiness through FLOREAT and on the corresponding area of the reverse is indicative of improper metal mixture at an early stage of the production of the planchet stock. Syd recorded just three examples of this die variety in silver to which can be added a fourth that appeared in a December 2018 Heritage sale.PCGS# 915272.From the Sydney F. Martin Collection.
