Very utilitarian in nature, this novodel rendering of an Alexander I pattern Ruble presents a recycled planchet, with a great deal of the host coins reverse noted near the peripheries of the overtypes reverse. Given the amount of undertype remaining, it is possible to attribute it as a Ruble of Catherine II the Great, from between 1773-76. Incredibly interesting and VERY RARELY seen, with a light gray tone yielding to other pastel hues throughout.From the Sigma Collection.
