ANNAM. 7 Tien, Year 14 (1833). Variety with medium characters on reverse. Obverse: Dragon in clouds, date below; Reverse: Minh Mang Thong Bao. This charming survivor boasts a strong strike with bold well-formed devices and complete denticles. The surfaces, with a naturally uneven texture in the fields, display an attractive mottled golden gray and slate patina with hints of iridescence and minor earthen deposits in the protected areas of the design. Wholly original looking and pleasing to the eye, this handsome example offers good eye appeal with much remaining luster that pops out when rotating in the light. Close inspection of the reverse reveals a few small scratches along the upper left stroke of Mang from long ago, long since toned over matching the rest of the coin, accounting for the details designation. Despite its short comings, an attractive survivor of the type with a many desirable traits that is sure to be a welcome addition to the next collection it enters. From the Nguyen Dynasty Collection.
